The FSSC 22000 Standard is the world leading, independent certification standard for food safety management systems throughout the entire supply chain. The FSSC 22000 Standard is based on the requirements of the ISO 22000 standard, depending on the nature of activity, and the FSSC guidelines. The standard is approved by the GFSI and is considered to be equal to the standards of BRC or IFS.
In May 2019, a new edition of FSSC 22000 Version 5 will be published. One big reason for the revision is the publication of the standard ISO 22000:2018, which is used as a basis for the GFSI benchmarked certification scheme.
Most Probable Changes in FSSC 22000 Version 5
The new version will adopt High-Level Structure (HLS), the common structure for all new management system standards. The main reasons for the changes and issue of the Version 5 of FSSC 22000 Certification are:
Transition Process Required for FSSC 22000 Version 5
The new version of FSSC 22000 will be published in May 2019. Audits against the FSSC 22000 Standard requirements version 4.1 are only allowed latest December 31st of 2019. All FSSC 22000 certificates issued for compliance with version 4.1 shall no longer valid after 29th June 2021. Transition audits in accordance with the requirements of the FSSC 22000 version 5 shall be carried out between 1st January 2020 and 31st December 2020.
